    Somewhere Out There (Instrumental)

    (James Horner/Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil)

James Ingram and Linda Ronstadt recordings

    MCA-52973 (MC21885) (US 45)

This flip side to the Grammy-winning song of the same name is a bit of a mystery.  It is credited to James Ingram and Linda Ronstadt, although orchestral forces seem to be at play.  Also, it doesn't appear on the soundtrack to An American Tail.  One can only assume it is either a studio orchestra or is indeed being performed by the aftermentioned duo, acclaimed musicians in their own right.  The synthesizers could be James Horner or James Ingram.  In any case, the final result sounds more like your typical '80s David Foster rock instrumental than anything else.  Apologies to Ms. Ronstadt if that is indeed her on the screeching electric guitar.
