    Straight Ahead

    (Van McLain/Gary West)

    Shooting Star recordings

    Epic 34-04025 ZSS 171295 (US demo 45)

The second track from Shooting Star's fourth album, Burning.  If the kids ever ask you "What was '80s power pop?" play them this record.  This has everything, from driving electric guitars to Van Halen-esque guitar hooks ("Panama", anyone?) to athletic drums and the obligatory keyboard solo.  Fans and non-fans have likened this band to Journey, and the similarity is in evidence here, minus Steve Perry's herniated tenor.  Don't listen for any cryptic Taupin-esque lyrics, either.
