Symphony for Five Instruments (Second Version)

    (George Antheil)

Innovative "symphony" for bassoon, flute, trombone, trumpet and viola is actually a Stravinskian concerto in disguise, with all five instruments trading off and having their turn in the limelight, often resulting in virtually indistinguishable sounds, thanks to unique scoring.  There are two versions of this work, the second of which was first performed in 1924 during the composer's stay in Paris.
