Ross, Jeris

Country and western songstress who enjoyed moderate success in the mid-70s, charting twelve times on the Billboard country charts, frequently with cover versions of pop songs.  Remakes of Melanie’s “Brand New Key” and Three Dog Night’s “Old Fashioned Love Song” both cracked the top ten.  Her self-titled debut LP in 1975 included a remake of “Chapel Of Love”, which had been released as a single in 1974, and “I’d Rather Be Picked Up Here (Than Be Put Down At Home)”.

For a short time, Jeris was on the everybody-who-is-anybody list, performing on The Ralph Emery Show on 16th March 1973 alongside such notables as Merle Haggard, Brenda Lee, and Jerry Lee Lewis.  She was included on a couple of country and western compilations, Superkicker, on which she performed “I Can Feel Love”, and an Air Force recruitment LP in 1974 which also featured Dolly Parton and Tanya Tucker.  Ross (now Jeris Ford) retired in 1983 and decided to become a full-time mommy.

In 1989, she resurrected her career as a member of The Bop Cats, an oldies band that tours around Oklahoma.
