Chang, Sunmi

She is a violinist and violist born in South Korea who began to take lessons in the violin when she was seven years old.

After being a successful entrant into competitions as a violinist in South Korea she relocated in 1995 to the Yehudi Menuhin School in England when she was 14 years old.  This led to her making an appearance at the UNESCO HQ in Paris, France and giving many performances at major venues in London. She then went to Berlin in Germany where she attended  the Hanns Eisler Musikhockschule.

In the new millennium she made her way to the United States where she has performed with the Philharmonia Orchestra of Yale, who she performed in Asia with at the 2008 Olympics cultural prelude.  She as also the winner of the Woolsey Hall Concerto Competition in 2006.

In 2007 she became the laureate for the International Sion Valais Violin competition and the International Markneukirchen Violin competition in Switzerland and Germany respetively.

She became a violinist with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in Minnesota in 2009 and in 2010 was involved with the Chamber Music Protégé Project.

In the recording studio she has performed on The Mando Chronicles by Peter Ostroushko.
