She is a classical violinist, music director, teacher and author born in Rome Italy. Her family emigrated to the United States when she was eight and they lived in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
She studied the violin at the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School of Music and was the youngest recipient ever of a Walter W. Naumberg International Violin Competition. She received an Avery Fisher Career Grant which culminated in her receiving the Avery Fisher Prize in 1999. Also in 1999 she was the first ever recipient of an honorary degree from the New Mexico State University.
She was featured on the news program 60 Minutes in 1986 which had a follow-up called 60 Minutes II in 1999 and was also a regular guest on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Other TV appearances have been on Nightwatch, The Charlie Rose Show, Live from Lincoln Centre, Sesame Street and the TV special Dallas Symphony Orchestra: Music of Bernstein, Barber & Beethoven.
She has played at the White House, performed internationally with many orchestras and performed with artists such as Joe Jackson, Mandy Patinkin, Mark O’Connor and Anne-Marie McDermott.
She became the Resident Artist at Loyola University New Orleands in 2013.
Her autobiography was written for children and is named Nadja: On My Way.
