Thompson, Chester (11th December 1948-Present)

He is a drummer, percussionist and teacher born Chester Cortez Thompson in Baltimore, Maryland who made his name as a session drummer and then went on to play with Frank Zappa and Weather Report.

He has played on eight Genesis tours and is featured on four of their albums.  He appeared on Phil Collins’ Serious Hits…Live! album and continues to work him in his concerts.  He has also released the solo albums A Joyful Noise and Steppin’

In 2008 he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 32nd Percussive Arts Society International Convention.

He formed the Chester Thompson Trio in 2011 and they have released the albums Approved and Simpler Times.

He is currently living in Nashville, Tennessee and teaches drums at Belmont University.  He is also working on music composition and production.
