He is a singer and producer born Daniel Anthony Hutton in Buncrana, Ireland. When he was still a child his family relocated to Boston. Masschusetts and later he moved to California and carved himself out a career as a voice over artist in Los Angeles.
He branched out into music and released several singles with his most successful being “Roses and Rainbows”. In 1965 he took on the position of Head of Hanna Barbera Records and stayed there for around a year. Around that time he also auditioned for a part in the new group The Monkees which proved unsuccessful.
By 1968 he had already worked with the singers Chuck Negron and Cory Wells and after having got together again they formed the singing trio Redwood and released several songs with the production handled by Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. They added a group of musicians and called themselves Three Dog Night. They became one of the most successful groups in the US from 1969 until the mid 1970s with hits such as “An Old Fashioned Love Song”, “Black and White”, Easy to be Hard”, “Joy to the World”, “Mama Told Me (Not to Come)”, “Shambala” and many more that still appear today on TV, radio and in movies.
The band went into a hiatus in 1975 and he branched out into the management of punk rock groups. At the same time he led the Danny Hutton Hitters who had their cover of “Wouldn’t It Be Good” featured on the soundtrack of Pretty in Pink.
In 1981 Three Dog Night decided to get back together again and from then they have continually performed in concert and regularly toured.
He has worked with many other artists during his career such as Little Feat, Van Dyke Parks and Frank Zappa. Appearing on numerous albums his work has been heard on American Pastime, Coming Down Your Way, Cyan, Golden Bisquits, Hard Labor, Harmony, It Ain’t Easy, It’s a Jungle, Joy to the World – Their Greatest Hits, Naturally, Seven Separate Fools, 35thAnniversary Hits Collection with the London Symphony Orchestra and Suitable for Faming by Three Dog Night, Beck, Bogert & Appice by Beck, Bogert & Appice and Stills and Turnin’ Back the Pages by Stephen Stills.
Three Dog Night reformed and he performed with them until 2015.
