Weil, Cynthia (18th October 1940-1st June 2023)

She was  songwriter born in New York City  who trained as an actress and dancer and then wrote songs in collaboration with her future husband, Barry Mann.

She became one of the most important songwriters of rock and roll.  Her hits co-written with her husband include “Sometimes When We Touch”, “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin'”, “Here You Come Again”, “We Gotta Get Out of This Place” and many more.

Her co-written songs were recorded by numerous artists which include The Animals, George Benson, Eric Carmen, Ray Charles, The Crystals, The Drifters, Eydie Gorme, Hanson, James Ingram, Gladys Knight,  Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sergio Mendes, The Monkees, Gary Numan, Tony Orlando, Dolly Parton, The Partridge Family, Gene Pitney, Elvis Presley, Lionel Richie, The Righteous Brothers, The Ronettes, Marlene Shaw, Dusty Springfield, Barbra Streisand, B.J. Thomas, Dionne Warwick, Andy Williams, Deniece Williams and Neil Young along with many others.

Her and her husband won several Grammy  and Academy Award nominations for their film scores. In 1987 she was inducted into the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame followed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.

In 2015 she published her first and only mystery novel I’m Glad I Did.

She died at home in Beverly Hills, California in June 2023 when she was 82 years old.
