Ortiz, Cristina (17th April 1950-Present)

She is a pianist born in Bahia, Brazil, who won a Gold Medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and quickly became acclaimed for her characteristic “Brazilian passion and spontaneity.”

She has performed with conductors that include Neeme Jarvi, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Mariss Jansons and orchestras such as the Royal, Berlin, Vienna and Czech Philharmonics, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra.

As a conductor she has led the Prague Chamber Orchestra and Consort of London while performing and as a teacher she has given masterclasses and workshops.

She has made many recordings with perhaps her best known being the American premiere of Guarnieri’s Choro and the five piano concertos of Villa- Lobos.
