Cain, Thomas (1946-Present)

He is a multi-musician, background vocalist, producer, songwriter and composer born in Athens, Alabama who took his musical education at the Tennessee State University.

He played the trumpet while young as well as the piano and over the ensuing years he worked as a studio musician with many stars in several genres of music.  He also worked as a musician on the PBS special Johnny Mathis: Wonderful, Wonderful and performs with his jazz ensemble The Thomas Cain Band.

In 1975 he released the single “Draggin’ It Out” on the RCA label

Interested in writing music many artists have recorded his music and it has also been used by companies for advertising.  His compositions were used for the score of the award winning documentary Waiting in the Wings: African Americans in Country Music.

Throughout his successful career he has featured with numerous artists as a musician and/or composer and just a few of these are Arthur Alexander, Debby Boone, Carlene Carter, Buzz Cason, Marshall Chapman, Dazz Band, Diamond Rio, Dion, Crystal Gayle, Lionel Hampton, Etta James, Delbert McClinton, Ronnie Millsap, Saturday Night Band, Sebastian and B.J. Thomas among many more.

The countless albums he is credited on include Hell & High Water: The Best of the Arista Years by The Allman Brothers Band, Never Alone by Amy Grant, Jerry Lee Lewis Keeps on Rocking by Jerry Lee Lewis, Catching On by The Mighty Clouds of Joy and The Gambler by Kenny Rogers1935 by Fats Waller and Niecy by Deniece Williams.

He is the founder of the successful publishing company Candy Cane Music and has held the position of Director Of Writer/Publisher Relations of Nashville’s BMI.
