Allifranchini, Ruggero

He is a violinist born in Milan, Italy to a musical family who went to the United States to study at Philadelphia’s New School followed by the Curtis Institute of Music.

He became a co-founder of the Borromeo String Quartet in 1989 and he performed with them until 2000.

Sought after as a concertmaster he has been the Concertmaster of Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra and the Associate Concertmaster of  the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra as well as making guest appearances in that position with the Minnesota Orchestra and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.  He is also a violinist with the trio Nobilis, which has given performances on an international basis, as well as the chamber ensemble Accordo.  He stepped down from the SPCO in 2020 to pursue other interests.

An accomplished chamber musician, he has been a performer at festivals in venues at El Paso, Seattle and Vancouver and a guest artist with chamber music societies at Lincoln Center and in Boston.

No stranger to the recording studio he has appeared on several albums with just some of them including Peyton: String Quartets, Songs etc by the Borromeo String Quartet, Classical Hour at Steinway Hall  and Tchaikovsky: Piano Trio by Nobilis and Godfrey: Wrinkled Moon by Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra members.

Aside from his work as a violinist he performed as a jazz drummer for several years.

The Chigiana Academy based in Siena, Italy, has awarded him a Diploma d’Onore.
