Amis, Kenneth (1970-Present)

He is a tuba player, pianist, conductor, composer and teacher born in Bermuda who started playing the piano while young but became interested in the tuba while at high shool.  He studied composition at Boston University from the time he was 16 years old and after graduating went on to earn his Masters degree in composition at the New England Conservatory of Music.

He has performed with several ensembles and orchestras such as the English Chamber Orchestra, New World Symphony Orchestra, Palm Beach Orchestra and is most known for performing as a member of Empire Brass.  As a conductor he has held the position of Assistant Conductor for the MIT wind ensemble.

As a composer and arranger he was fifteen when he published his A Suite for Bass Tuba  and has since written many commissons for various orchestras and wind ensembles in the Boston area.  He is also thought to be the first transcriber of Bach’s Art of Fugue for a wind ensemble  In 2007 he was the composer-in-residence at Massachusett’s South Shore Conservatory.

In the field of musical education he has been on the faculties of Boston University, Lynn University, Longy School of Music, MIT, New England Conservatory and the Boston Conservatory.
