MacCluer, Joshua

He is a trumpeter and teacher born in Charlottesville, Virginia, whose father was a bluegrass fiddler and jazz bassist and his grandfather was a member of the bass section in the Cleveland Orchestra.

He studied at the Oberlin Conservatory and in his professional career has performed with numerous ensembles and orchestras throughout the world including the Singapore Symphony, ther New Mexico Symphony, the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, the Grand Rapids Symphony, the Malaysian Philharmonic, the Florida Orchestra, the Columbus Symphony, the Saint Louis Symphony Brass Quintet, Florida Brass Quintet, the Paramount Brass, and the Detroit Chamber Winds.

Performing as a soloist he has been featured with the Eastern Music Festival, the Baltimore Symphony where he was Assistant Principal Trumpet for a season and the Colorado Symphony, where he was Principal Trumpet for two seasons.

In 2003 he joined the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra as second trumpet, and he has also appeared in Holiday Brass concerts with other members from the brass section of the orchestra.

As a festival musician and teacher he spent three years on the faculty of the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina from 1999 to 2002, a faculty member of the Hong Kong Academy of the Performing Arts and a Director of Peak Performance Coaching at TransVolve.

In 2012 he became Principal Trumpet with the Hong Kong Philharmonic but announced his retirement from orchestral playing in 2018.

As of 2018 he has released several recordings as a musician and producer.
