Menkis, Jonathan

He is a horn player born in West Orange, New Jersey, who obtained his music degree from Ithaca College in New York in 1981.

After graduating he took on the position of Assistant Principal Horn with the Sacramento Symphony and followed that by taking the same position with the New Orleans Symphony.

In 1984 he became a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, where he is the Associate Principal Horn, also performing with the Boston Pops Orchestra.  He has also held the position of chairman of the Boston Symphony players committee.

During his professional career as a musician he has taken part in the Colorado Music Festival and performed with the American Wind Symphony, Empire Brass and the Colorado Philharmonic.

No stranger to the recording studio, he can be heard on American Visions, Chris Botti: Live in Boston, Holiday Pops, The Latin Album, My Favorite Things: A Richard Rodgers Celebration and A Splash of Pops by the Boston Pops Orchestra, Reinecke: From the Cradle to the Grave with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Fireworks, Glory of Gabrieli and Joy to the World: Music of Christmas by Empire Brass and Le Monde du Serpent by Douglas Yeo.

In the field of musical education he has been a member of the faculty of the Boston Conservatory and New England Conservatory.
