Keyboardist born August Meyers in San Antonio, Texas. who was one of the founding members of The Sir Douglas Quintet, and later, The Texas Tornados.
Meyers was born with polio and for whatever reason his grandparents tied one end of a rope around one of his legs, and the other end to a piano. Unable to tear himself away from the piano, literally, he learned how to play, although he would eventually become more enamoured of the handheld, non-rope-tied, piano-key accordion, and most notably, the Vox Continental organ, with which he would craft his signature sound.
In addition to his work with the aforementioned groups, he has been a sought-after session musician, sitting in with Bob Dylan, who waxes rhapsodic about him, on the albums Time Out of Mind and Love and Theft. He also contributed his talents to John Hammond’s Tom Waits tribute, Wicked Grin.
Meyers has released several solo albums, including Blame It On Love, which his son Clay engineered and produced, and his most recent release, My Freeholies Ain’t Free Anymore.
On 2nd May 2007, he performed at Ponderosa No. 6 in New Orleans. His latest project involved roots-rock singer-songwriter Jeffrey Halford. Meyers runs three record companies, Superbeet Records, The Texas Re-Cord Company, and White Boy Records, from his home base in Bulverde, Texas.
