Monahan, Nicole

She is a violinist who took her musical studies at New York’s Julliard School of Music and has performed there as a soloist and as concertmaster of the Juilliard Symphony and Chamber Orchestras.

A regular entrant in competitions she took part in Denmark’s International Carl Neilsen Competition in 1988 where she won a 4th prize and has been the first prize winner at the Bellflower Young Performers Competition and the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.

After venturing out on her professional career as a violinist she gave solo performances with the Bellflower Symphony Orchestra, the Brentwood/Westwood Symphony Orchestra and the University of Indiana Symphony Orchestra.

She was the Assistant Concertmaster for the La Jolla Summerfest Chamber Orchestra and Principal Second Violinist of the Norfolk Chamber Orchestra and Charleston Symphony before accepting a position with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1995, where she continues to perform.  She went on to marry a fellow BSO violinist Si-Jing Huang with whom she has three children.

Aside from performing with the BSO she has also appeared as a member of the Boston Pops Orchestra.

She has made appearances at the Lincoln Center, on several radio and television broadcasts and at events that include New York’s Focus! Festival and the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival.
