Morgenstern, Marvin

Teacher and violinist who won the Concert Artists Guild Competition in 1954 and went on to a successful career as a session musician, in addition to performing and recording classical music.

On 8th February 1968, he appeared in tandem with pianist Richard Goode at the State University of New York at Stony Brook’s University Theatre, interpreting Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Sonata in B minor for Violin and Piano”, Bela Bartok’s “Sonata No. 1”, and Stefan Wolpe’s “Piece in Two Parts for Solo Violin”.  It should be no surprise, then, that he went on to record Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Three Song Cycles.

However, his recording career would not be limited to classical: Marvin has recorded with a wide variety of artists and groups, including Patti Austin, Chet Baker, Tony Bennett, George Benson, Angela Bofill, Charles Calello, Deodato, John Faddis, Maynard Ferguson, AstrudGilberto, Dave Grusin, Billie Holiday, The Isley Brothers, Bob James, Earl Klugh, Lemon, Ralph MacDonald, Herbie Mann, Meco, Stevie Nicks, Jimmy Ponder, Lalo Schifrin, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra, Spyro Gyra, Tasha Thomas, and Grover Washington, Jr.  He was also one of the string musicians on the original soundtrack to The Wiz.
