Morphy, Frank

He is an oboist born in Ottawa, Canada, who was studied at the Ottawa Technical High School and the University of Toronto.

While he was still a student he was a touring member of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada in 1960 and then again from 1964 to 1966.  In more recent years he has performed with them alongside his son, who is now a percussionist with the orchestra.

After entering out on his professional career as an oboist, he has performed with the Banff Festival Orchestra, the Champagne Symphony Pops Orchestra, the Hamilton Philharmonic, the National Arts Centre Orchestra an the National Ballet of Canada.

He has also been a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra since 1972 and has regularly been heard with them in concert, in the recording studio and on tours such as the TSOs visit to the People’s Republic of China in 1977.

His recordings are numerous and include albums such as Adeste Fidelis by Gino & Louis Quilico, Judy Loman and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra & Toronto Children’s Chorus, Along the Road to Bethlehem by the Toronto Children’s Chorus and Beethoven Lives Upstairs and Music Box Vol: 1 in the Classic Kids series.

Showing an interest in percussion, he now creates mallets for timpani that are used by many musicians throughout Canada.
