Murdock, Katherine

She is an American violist and teacher who studied at Oberlin, Yale School of Music and with William Primrose at the Banff School of Fine Arts.

In her professional career she has been heard as a chamber musician, orchestral member and soloist with groups and ensembles that include the Boston Chamber Music Society, the Brandenburg Ensemble, the Mendelssohn String Quartet, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Beaux Arts Trio, the New Zealand String Quartet, the Audobon Quartet, the Vermeer Quartet, the New England Chamber Orchestra, the Fairfax Symphony, the New York Philharmonic, the National Symphony, Theatre Chamber Players of Washington DC, Los Angeles Piano Quartet and the Boston Symphony among others.

Her festival appearances have taken her around the world to venues that include Gulbenkian, Tanglewood, Sarasota, Salzburg and Edinburgh and she attends the Kneisel Hall and Yellow Barn music festivals each summer as part of the artists faculty.

Her many recordings include Rejoice! with Arturo Delmoni, Tobias Picker with the Mendelssohn String Quartet and Tchaikovsky/Schubert with the Boston Chamber Music Society.  As a teacher she has been Artist in Residence at the University of Delaware, Harvard University and Stony Brook, New York, and been a faculty member of the Boston Conservatory, University of Maryland, Hartt School of Music, Wellesley College and Longy School.
