Negri, Vittorio (16th October 1923-9th April 1998)

He was an orchestral conductor and musicologist born in Milan, Italy, who studied at the Milan Conservatory, at Siena and Salzburg.

He was made Assistant Conductor of the Mozarteum before returning to Italy after his studies and founding the Sociela Italiana di Musicologia.

Since 1955 he was the Artistic Director for the Italian ensemble I Musici and made recordings with many international orchestras and choirs including the Berlin Chamber Orchestra, the Dresden Staatskapelle, La Fenice and the English Chamber Orchestra.

He edited many 17th and 18th Century Italian compositions and was Editor-in-Chief of the MonumentaItalicae Musicae and a previous Chair of Chamber Music at the Perugia Conservatory.

He was nominated for Grammy Awards in 1969, 1973 and 1980.

He died in 1998 when he was 74 years old.
