Nelsen, Jeff (December 1969-Present)

He is a horn player who was born into a musical family and raised on a pig farm near Edmonton, Canada.  His parents are opera singers and he has one sister who is a freelance flutist and the other a freelance bassoonist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.  His brother in law is David Ohanian of Canadian Brass and his cousin, Jamie Somerville, is Principal Horn in the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

He became a member of Canadian Brass from 2000 after having already performed with many Canadian orchestras including the Montreal, Vancouver and Winnipeg Symphonies.

Aside from orchestral and ensemble work he has appeared with Broadway productions, on many film soundtracks and toured with Michael Bolton, Barry Manilow and Donny Osmond among others.  His hobby is magic and it is not unusual for him to perform magic tricks during his musical performances.

As a teacher he has been on the faculties of McGill University , the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia , and currently the University of Toronto , and in May 2006 was appointed Visiting Associate Professor of Horn at the Jacobs School of Music at IndianaUniversity for the academic year of 2006-7.

Here he is performing “Paganini Variations” with the Canadian Brass…
