Nikolitch, Gordan (1968-Present)

Violinist from Serbia who started performing at seven years of age and attended the Basle Music Academy, where he studied with Jean-Jacques Kantorow.

In 1998, he joined the London Symphony Orchestra.  Other groups with whom he has worked include the Basle Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Chamber Orchestra of the Auvergne, the Combattimento Consort, the Manchester Camerata, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Suisse-Romande, Orchestre d’Auvergne, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, the Razumovsky Ensemble, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the St. George Strings Orchestra, and the Vellinger Quartet.

On 26th May 2004, he and double bassist Rinat Ibragimov and harpist Bryn Lewis shared solo duties when the LSO gave the world premiere of Dmitri Smirnov’s “Triple Concerto 2”.

He and cellist Tim Hugh were the soloists when the LSO interpreted Johannes Brahms’ “Double Concerto” at the Barbican on 5th December 2004.  The program was rounded out with Brahms’ “Symphony No. 1” and Richard Wagner’s overture from Tannhauser.

They were back at the Barbican in February 2005 when Gordan was the soloist on Brahms’ “Violin Concerto”.

On 26th November 2005, Gordan, Tim and pianist Lars Vogt were the soloists on Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Triple Concerto in C”.  The concert concluded with Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 6 in F” (“Pastoral”).

The St. George Strings Orchestra performed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Symphony No. 29” and all five, count them, five, violin concertos in December 2006.  The extravaganza was named “Concert of the Year” in Belgrade.

In August 2007, Gordan participated in the Festival de l’Emperi, Salon de Provence Music Festival.

He and cellist Christophe Coin, violinist Daishin Kashimoto and pianist Eric Le Sage appeared at the Salle Pleyel in Paris, France, on 13th January 2008.  Their recital consisted of Robert Schumann’s “Piano Trio No. 2 in F major, Op. 80”, “Piano Trio No. 3 in G minor, Op. 110”, and “Violin Sonata No. 1 in A minor, Op. 105”.

On 24th March 2011, he was the soloist when Douglas Boyd conducted the Manchester Camerata in a concert at the Coronation Hall in Ulverston.

The LSO and Tenebrae offered up Gabriel Faure’s Requiem at St. Paul’s Cathedral on 28th June 2011.  Gordan opened the proceedings with Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004”.

On 4th September 2011, they presented Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis at the Royal Albert Hall.

They performed Bela Bartok’s “Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta” and “Violin Concerto No. 2” and Karol Szymanowski’s “Symphony No. 3” (“Song of the Night”) on 10th May 2012.
