Norris, Tom (1971-Present)

Guitarist, pianist, singer-songwriter, violinist and violist from Kent, England, who studied at the Banff Centre for the Arts, Chetham’s School of Music, and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Groups with whom he has worked include Antony & the Johnsons, Deep Purple, the Essex Chamber Orchestra, the Jigsaw Players, Living Room in London, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Puertas Quartet, the Schubert Ensemble, the Vuillaume Quartet, the Who, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and the Wren Players.

On 22nd November 2008, the Jigsaw Players appeared at Christ Church in Wimbledon where they performed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Clarinet Concerto”, Sergei Prokofiev’s “Sonate for Two Violins”, and Josef Suk’s “Quartet”.

They returned to the same venue for a recital of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “Souvenir de Florence” on 25th July 2009.

On 5th & 6th August 2009, he dusted off his vocal cords for a performance of Elvis Costello’s “Juliet Letters” with violist German Clavaijo, and his wife, violinist Ellie Fagg, in Granada, Spain.

Living Room in London participated in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which was held from 24th August through 31st August 2009.  Their program included Tom’s own composition, “If Loving You”, “So What” by Miles Davis, and “Yesterday” by the Beatles.

In 2009, he recorded Franz Joseph Haydn’s “String Quartet, Op. 33, No. 2” (“The Joke”) as part of the LSO Discovery’s A-level seminar.

He released his solo debut album, Edge of the World, in 2010.

In March of 2010, he was in the orchestra pit for a production of the Who’s Quadrophenia at Royal Albert Hall.

Living Room in London gave an airing to David Ibbett’s “Without Words” at Rosemary Branch on 25th May 2010.

On 3rd July 2010, he opened for Eric Clapton at the DTE Energy music theatre.

The Puertas Quartet took the stage at the University of Auckland School of Music’s Music Theatre on 1st May 2011.  Their recital comprised Sir Edward Elgar’s “Piano Quintet in A minor, Op. 84”, Haydn’s “String Quartet in F, Op. 77, No. 2”, and Alexander von Zemlinsky’s “String Quartet No. 4, Op. 25”.

On 5th May 2011, they reprised the Zemlinsky piece, and performed Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Quartet in E flat, Op. 127”, and Keith Statham’s “Romance No. 1” in the Hunter Council Chamber at Victoria University.

They were at St. Andrew’s Church in Gisborne, New Zealand, on 21st March 2012 for Haydn’s “String Quartet in C, Op. 20, No. 2”, Maurice Ravel’s “Quartet in F”, and Tchaikovsky’s “String Quartet No. 1”.

On 28th March 2010, the LSO Strings gave the British premiere of Manu Delago’s first piece for hang and orchestra at LSO St. Luke’s.
