Paonessa, Raul (30th May 1950-26th June 2005)

He was a drummer born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, later residing in Clifton, New Jersey, who was a member of the Buzzy Bunch, which was the group assembled by Pepe Luis Soto to back the singer Celi Bee in the 1970s.

He later joined Bob McHugh and Ron Naspo to form Interplay, a New York-based jazz trio.

In 2002, he performed with David Braham & The Latin Jazz Alliance at the Po’Jazz poetry & arts festival at the Hudson Valley Writers’ Center in New York.  He has collaborated with Jackie Jones in various capacities over the last ten years and has also performed with Mongo Santamaria and Hilton Ruiz.

He died while aboard the Princess Cruises Island Cruise in Alaska in 2005.  He was 55 years old.
