He is a baritone singer born in New York and the son of the acclaimed baritone singer Louis Quilico and the pianist Cristina Quilico.
He studied at the University of Toronto and had a variety of jobs before beginning his singing career as an opera performer.
He made history with his father when they were the first father and son team to appear at The Met in the same production and they would go on to make many further appearances together. He is known for his performances of Figaro in The Barber of Seville, Escamillo in Carmen and Marcello in La Boheme.
He has sung in two feature operatic films and was an artist on the Grammy Award nominated recording of Les Troyens in 1995. He is Canada ‘s first Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and was awarded the honour of being made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1992.
