Runyon, Chad

He is a baritone, actor, choral conductor and voice specialist who took his further education in music at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas and the Wheaton Conservatory, Illinois.

In 1988 he became a member of the men’s ensemble Chanticleer and during his 9-year stay with them he toured nationally and internationally and made many recordings.

As a soloist he has performed in productions of both of J.S. Bach’s “Passions”, Handel’s Messiah, Britten’s Curlew River, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Mozart’s Mass In C, Conrad Susa’s Carols & Lullabies and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols and was the opening soloist in Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street which was broadcast on PBS and became an Emmy Award winner.

No stranger to the recording studio he has appeared on more than 20 albums, which include his own Sweet Inspirational Worship: The Niles-Merton Songs as well as Messiah by the American Bach Soloists, The Gift of the Magi by David Conte, Josquin: Agricola, Matins for the Virgin of Guadalupe, The Music of Chen Yi, On the Air, Out of This World, Reflections and Sing We Christmas by Chanticleer and Voices: 1900-200 by the San Francisco Symphony Chorus.

In the world of stage and screen he has had acting roles in the theatre productions of America Tropical and Mama Don’t Allow, sung on the soundtracks of Hellboy and Spy Kids and recorded several commercial jingles.

In his role as choral conductor he has led many ensembles such as the Pacific Boy Choir Academy, the San Francisco City Choirs, Soli Deo Gloria in addition to several high school and church choirs.

When he isn’t singing or conducting he works in his own voice studio and holds choral and voice clinics and workshops and holds memberships with the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the California Music Educator’s Association, the Screen Actors Guild and the American Guild of Musical Artists.
