Russell, David (1953-Present)

He is a classical guitarist who was born in Glasgow, Scotland and moved to Minorca with his family when he was five.

He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, twice winning the Julian Bream Guitar Prize.  He took part in several competitions and took first prize in the Francisco Tarrega Competition, the Jose Ramirez Competition and the Andres Segovia Competition amongst others.

He has made eleven recordings to date for the company Telarc International and has given performances all over the world.  Alongside winning a Grammy Award in 2005 with the CD Aire Latino for Best Instrumental Soloist in Classical Music, he has received many honours including being made a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music in London, being presented with the Medal of Honor of the Conservatory of the Balearics and the Silver Medal of the town of Nigran in Spain, being made an “adopted son” of the town Es Migjom, the town where he grew up, in Minorca.

Outside of music he has won several amateur golf competitions that have taken place mainly in Spain or Scotland.
