Sheldon, Ernie (24th January 1930-Present)

He is a singer, guitarist, composer and arranger born Ernest Liebermann in Brooklyn, New York.

He began his career as a singer in the 1940s, where he is considered one of the first to record on the Hootenanny Label, and became a member of The Gateway Singers in 1958, with whom he was known for singing Shenandoah.  He later joined The Limeliters while at the same time becoming an editor for the magazine Sing Out.

He released albums with other artists such as Joyce Sheldon and The Villagers and his own single, Billy’s Ridin’.

As a composer her wrote songs for artists that included Perry Como and Peggy Lee and he saw success with the hit song “Baby, the Rain Must Fall”.  He also wrote themes and songs for TV and film including Young Billy Young, Here Comes the Brides, Duel at Diablo and The Trouble With Angels.
