Vocalist who was a member of the funk outfit, Reality, in 1970, although he was billed as “Renold Shearman” on their inaugural LP. Curiously, the group billed themselves as “Tony Sherman & Reality” on their sophomore effort.
In 1973, he released his self-titled solo album, and many of the songs therein were released as singles. “Tonight” went to #11 on the Dutch chart in 1974. It subsequently made the cut on a pair of compilations, K-Tel’s Music Power and Sua Paz Mundial – Volume 3. “I Wrote You a Letter” and “Sing with Me” were among the top 200 most popular songs in Holland in 1975.
He also recorded with Julia Lo’ko on “Too Big for Words”, and his brother Kenneth on “Smile Baby Smile” in 1976. (They billed themselves simply as The Sherman Brothers.) In the 1980s, Tony’s “Ellovee-Ee” reached #49 in The Netherlands and he was tapped to emulate Stevie Wonder on the Stars On/Starsound hit, “Stars on Stevie”. He teamed up with Dhaddy Brokke in 1984 on the album Felis and the duet, “Por Mi No Warda”.
In 1990, he released the maxi-single, “Who’s the One for Me”. Another maxi-single, “Only Love Can Save Me”, appeared on the record shelves in 2009. Toward the end of the millennium, some of Tony’s singles began reappearing on CD anthologies, such as Disco Classics Party, Golden Eighties: The Rare Funk Selection, Volume 1, and The Love Album.
