Smith, Joseph

Clarinetist, educator and saxophonist who graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music in 1967 and went on to attend Temple University.

His resume is extensive and includes stop-overs with the Concerto Soloists Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, the Fairmount Woodwinds Quintet, the Lyric Opera Company of Philadelphia, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Ballet Orchestra, and the Philly Pops.

On 13th June 2008, he helped premiere Matthew H. Fields’ composition “Fireheart” at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania.

His students include Stephanie Herrmann, who has won competitions at Music in the Parks, as Best Soloist, and the Tri-County Concerts Association Annual Youth Festival.
