Wendells, Dave

He is a English guitarist who went to school with Mick Underwood of Gillan.  He performed with Ritchie Blackmore and David Sutch in Screaming Lord Sutch and the Savages from May to October 1962.

He became a member of the group Cliff Bennett and the Rebel Rousers in December 1962 when he took over from Bernie Watson.  They saw hits with “One Way Love” and their No. 6 version of “Got to Get You Into My Life” that had previously appeared on The Beatles Revolver and was produced for them by Paul McCartney.  He continued with them for several years, including working under songwriters such as Mark London and Roy Wood and appearing on the TV show Beatles, Die, but the band dissolved in 1969 and became Toe Fat.

Roy Young had been a co-member of the Rebel Rousers and in 1970 he became a member of The Roy Young Band and stayed with them until 1972, appearing on their albums and also backing Chuck Berry in his live recording of the No. 1 hit “My Ding-a-Ling”.

In 1978 he appeared on the It’s Rock + Roll Vol. 2 , which was recorded as part of the BBC Radio One show It’s Rock ‘n’ Roll.

In 1992 he appeared on The Searcher’s 30th Anniversary Collection  and in the 2000s he has been part of the trio, Rockability, with Bob Allen and David Schaffner.
