He was a session drummer born Andrew White in Glasgow, Scotland who was the drummer on the album version of “Love Me Do” and “P.S. I Love You” while Ringo Starr played the tambourine and maracas respectively. He also played on the slow version of “Please Please Me” which was never released. These recordings were done on September 11th 1962.
He toured with Billy Fury and played on the Sound of Fury album. He also played with Anthony Newley, Tom Jones, Herman’s Hermits and Marlene Dietrich.
He was married to Lyn Cornell of the Vernons Girls (who appeared with The Beatles and sang the line “You know what I mean” which gave John Lennon the line in “I Saw Her Standing There” which replaced Paul McCartney’s original line) and The Pearls.
He moved to America in the late 1980s/early 1990s and taught a new generation of would-be drummers in the art of Scottish pipe band percussion.
He died in Caldwell, New Jersey following a stroke in 2015 when he was 85 years old.
