Wine, Toni (4th June 1947-Present)

She is a singer-songwriter and keyboardist born in Washington Heights, New York and was a songwriter from a very young age, as well as a student at Julliard.

She was first discovered by the songwriter Paul Kaufman who hired her to do a demo for him and then the rock and roll arranger Teacho Wiltshire heard her singing in an elevator and asked her to accompany him on a session.

She wrote “Groovy Kind of Love” which was a No. 2 hit for The Mindbenders in 1966 as well as “Candida” and several songs for Elvis Presley and Checkmates Ltd in the ’60s and ’70s.

As a singer she was also a vocalist for the TV cartoon group The Archies from 1968 to 1970 and had hits with songs such as “Sugar, Sugar” which went to No. 1 in the UK and US charts.

She has also sung back up vocals for Gene Pitney and Willie Nelson and has reguarly appeared with Tony Orlando as a vocalist and on keyboards.
