Woodford, David

He is a saxophonist, flautist, songwriter and arranger often called “Dave” who has been a professional musician since 1960 and took his studies at the Berklee College of Music in the late 1960s, teaching there for his final year and graduating in 1970.

His career has seen him continually busy in the studio and/or on the road and perhaps one of his most memorable performances is as the saxophonist on Glenn Frey’s hit song  “The Heat is On” which came to the fore in the movie Beverly Hills Cop.

Some of the numerous groups, singers and musicians he has toured and/or recorded with include Hoyt Axton, The Band, Jimmy Barnes, Stephen Bishop, Canned Heat, The Coral Reefer Band, John Cougar, Robbie Dupree, Venetta Fields, Glenn Frey, James Gadson, Jeff Golub, Richie Havens, Dan Hill, Michael Hutchence, Jim Keltner, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Feat, Kenny Loggins, Nils Lofgren, Maria Muldaur, Aaron Neville, Vanessa Paradis, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Julia Waters, Maxine Waters, Bruce Willis and Dwight Yoakam.

As you can imagine, the albums he has appeared on are countless, but include titles such as Gems by Aerosmith, Floridays by Jimmy Buffett, Tonight You’re Mine by Eric Carmen, Halloween Howls by Andrew Gold, Once in a While by Johnny Mathis, Pronto Monto by Kate & Anna McGarrigle, Outlaws and Angels by Willie Nelson & Friends, In Dreams: Greatest Hits by Roy Orbison, In the Pocket by Neil Sedaka, Star Struck: The Best of Ringo Starr, Vol. 2 by Ringo Starr, Out of Order by Rod Stewart, Free as a Bird by Supertramp and the soundtrack of Over the Top.  As a songwriter his credits include “Miss Trouble (Got a Lot of Nerve)” recorded by Tower of Power and “Mr. Bill Goes to Brazil” recorded by Ben Sidran.
