Double-bassist with the London Symphony Orchestra who appears on their recordings, Downey: Concerto for Double-Bass/Discourse, Holst: The Planets, and Music of Hope.
On 8th May 2007, the LSO were joined by Angela Gheorghiu for an evening of opera highlights that included “Habanera” from Carmen by Georges Bizet, “Lascia ch’io pianga” from Rinaldo by George Frideric Handel, and “Un bel di vedremo” from Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini.
Roberto Alagna was their guest soloist on 2nd May 2008 for a program of music from operas by Giuseppe Verdi. The concert featured “Questa o quella” from Rigoletto, “Niun mi tema!” from Otello, and “Va, pensiero” from Nabucco.
On 12th October 2010, the LSO offered up the Glagolitic Mass of Leos Janacek, with organist Catherine Edwards and the London Symphony Chorus, “Trickster” by Sasha Siem, and the “Violin Concerto” of Antonin Dvorak, with soloist Anne-Sophie Mutter.
They gave the world premiere of “Halo” by Vlad Maistorovici on 13th March 2011. It was followed Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto No. 3”, with Jonathan Biss at the keys, and “Symphony No. 7”.
On 15th March 2012, they teamed up with baritone Christopher Maltman for a performance of Gustav Mahler’s “Kindertotenlieder”. It was sandwiched between Johannes Brahms’ “Symphony No. 2” and Richard Strauss’s “Tod und Verklarung”.
