Albritton, Dub (??-19th March 1971)

Brenda Lee’s manager and co-writer of many of her biggest hits, including 1960’s “I’m Sorry” and “Sweet Nothin’s” which went to #1 and #4, respectively, on the Billboard charts.  Albritton was instrumental in the development of Lee’s career and fought tooth and nail for her not to have to follow Jerry Lee Lewis at a concert organized by “Dandy” Don Logan at Shreveport Auditorium.  At the time, Lewis’s career and reputation were at an all-time low, and Albritton feared that Little Miss Dynamite mightn’t be ready to follow The Killer’s energetic act.  The crowd went nuts for Jerry, and Logan had to try to calm them down to even get Brenda on the stage.  Brenda calmly went on stage and told her band they were going to open with “Sweet Nothin’s” and according to Logan, by the end of her act, and the ensuing, crowd-demanded encore, everyone had forgotten about Jerry Lee Lewis. Albritton’s protigi had arrived.  Brenda was a star.

Dub died of lung cancer at Baptist Hospital in Nashville in 1971.
