He is a bass guitarist, vocalist and songwriter born Teddy Wayne Gentry in Fort Payne, Alabama, and is a founding member of the group Alabama.
He was interested in music from an early age and in the late 1960s he teamed up with his cousin Randy Owen and Jeff Cook and they performed in the evenings. In 1973 they officially became Alabama and he was with them as bass player, vocalist and songwriter until their Farewell Concerts in 2003/4. He rejoined them for their various reunions and still performs with them today.
He has written hundreds of songs and before and during his musical career he has also had jobs that include running a theatre and working on a farm.
