Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra

Taking its name as homage to the composer, this orchestra was founded in 1963 by string musicians of Budapest’s Franz Liszt Academy of Music while in their final year.

The orchestra consists of several wind soloists, a harp soloist, and 17 string musicians who currently perform in excess of least 30 concerts each year at their home in Budapest.  They have made their name known internationally with concert tours and have featured guest soloists such as Yehudi Menuhin, Isaac Stern, Martha Argerich and Jean-Paul Rampal.  They were under the musical direction of Frigyes Sandor until his death in 1979 and since then the violinist Janos Rolla has led them.

Covering a wide repertoire of music they have made more than 200 recordings for which they have been awarded at least three Grand Prix awards.
