Goombay Dance Band

They are a German based band created by Oliver Bendt in 1979 who were named after a small bay on St. Lucia.

Their must successful songs were “Sun of Jamaica”, which topped the German chart for 9 weeks in 1980, “Aloha-Oe, Until We Meet Again” which was a Top 5 hit in Europe and No. 1 in Austria and “Seven Tears” which was No. 1 in the UK for three weeks in 1981.   On some of their tours they were backed by the bands Shuttle and Soulful Dynamics.

After 1984 they saw much less success but continued to record and in the 1990s their Christmas Album and Island of Dreams saw them appearing in the charts again.

In 2009 they celebrated their 30th Anniversary with an album release of re-recorded and new songs and in 2010 they released “Is This the Way to the World Cup” for the FIFA World Cup.

They still perform and record on occasion with a different line-up.
