Guildhall String Ensemble

This conductor-less ensemble of 11 members was founded in 1981 by David Takeno of The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and from the beginning their director has been Robert Salter.

In 1982 they were the first British ensemble to win the Jeunesses Musicales Competition in Belgrade, Yugoslavia.  In 1983 they came to the attention of the public eye when it performed in Cannes at the first classical MIDEM and has since made several recordings, performed throughout the world and appeared on BBC television and radio programmes.

In 1999 they received a nomination for the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Award.
