The first recording to feature feedback, followed by one of the most instantly recognizable guitar riffs in the history of rock and roll. John knocked this out while the Beatles were working on Beatles for Sale. Although it sounds like an electric guitar, John is actually playing an acoustic, amplified with effects. George later reiterates the riff on an electric.
It was against Parlophone protocol to include feedback on an album: John coyly suggested it was a mistake. Kurt Cobain said it was his favourite Beatles song and would play it at Nirvana concerts when there were technical woes. No feedback on this version, but the Sweethearts of the Rodeo give it a fair shake with their unique blend of country-rock, Texas two-step and bluegrass-style harmonies that helped establish them as a force to be reckoned with in the 1980s.
