Concerto in C for Piano and Orchestra (Anderson)

(Leroy Anderson)

This concerto was written in 1953 and although described as “an interesting an accessible work” it was not a great success when he premiered it in Chicago and Cleveland in 1954 with the pianist Eugene List.   Leroy Anderson withdrew it for revision as he thought it “had great merit”, but this never happened and it would lie untouched until his family released it in 1988.  Nowadays it is an extremely popular piece that is performed by orchestras and pianists worldwide.
