Mayhew, John (27th March 1947-26th March 2009)

He was a drummer born near Ipswich in Suffolk, England who started to play when he was 16.

In September 1969 he became a member of the band Genesis when he replaced John Silver. He was fired after the release of the band’s second album Trespass, and the departure of Anthony Phillips.  He was replaced by Phil Collins and many thought he had died as he went missing, not even cashing his royalty cheque for Trespass.

After playing for some other bands he eventually moved to Australia.  In 1982 he stopped performing and went to college and became a carpenter.

He later entered negotiations to get his back payments from Genesis.

He died suddenly in 2009 the day before his 62nd birthday.
