Keller, Tomo (1974-Present)

Violinist born in Stuttgart, Germany, who attended the Julliard School of Music in New York, New York, and the University of Music and Arts in Vienna, Austria.

Groups with whom he has worked include the Baden-Baden Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Ensemble Midt Vest, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Strings, the Manhattan Camerata, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the St. Petersburg Camerata, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, und die Westdeutschen SinfoniaLeverkusen.

On 18^th November 2002, he was the guest soloist of the Baden-Baden Philharmonic as they performed “Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in A minor, Op. 53” by Antonin Dvorak, “Five Greek Dances for String Orchestra” by Nikos Skalkottas, and “Symphony No. 5” (“Reformation”) by Felix Mendelssohn.

The Chamber Orchestra of Europe delivered the British premiere of Thomas Ades’ “Three Studies after Couperin” on 22^nd April 2007. The concert, which was conducted by the composer, also included his “Violin Concerto” (“Concentric Paths”) as well as Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 1 in C major” and Franz Joseph Haydn’s “Symphony No. 70 in D major”.

On 20^th November 2009, the LSO appeared at Barbican Hall where they interpreted Gustav Mahler’s “Symphony No. 10 in F sharp minor” (as realized by Deryck Cooke, Berthold Goldschmidt, Colin Matthews and David Matthews) and Mendelssohn’s “Violin Concerto”.

Tomo was the soloist at the 6^th Annual Lavender Festival in June 2010 in a recital of The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi.

In October 2010, he was the guest principal of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in a program that comprised Don Juan by Richard Strauss, “Piano Concerto No. 3” by Bela Bartok, with YefimBronfman at the keys, and “Symphony No. 39” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The LSO were back at the Barbican on 17^th February 2011 for Johannes Brahms’ “Violin Concerto”, Gary Carpenter’s “Fred and Ginger”, Richard Strauss’s “Tod und Verklarung”, und Richard Wagner’s “Siegfried Idyll”.

On 27^th February 2011, the offered up a wall-to-wall Mahler concert that pitted the master’s “Adagio “ from “Symphony No. 10 in F sharp minor” against his “Symphony No. 9 in D major”.

Tomo gave a solo recital on 13^th March 2011 that consisted of Beethoven’s “Violin Sonata in F major, Op. 24” (“Spring”), Claude Debussy’s “Violin Sonata in G minor, L. 140”, Dvorak’s “Four Romantic Pieces for Violin and Piano, Op. 75”, George Gershwin’s “Summertime”, Leopold Godowsky’s “Alt Wien”, Fritz Kreisler’s “Caprice Viennois, Op. 2”, Pablo de Sarasate’s“Zigeunerweisen, Op. 20”, Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Four Preludes, Op. 34” and Franz Waxman’s “Fantasia on Themes from Bizet’s Carmen”.

On 28^th April 2011, he was the featured soloist with the Manhattan Camerata at Grand Central Station in the Big Apple where he performed “Partita No. 3” and “Violin Concerto in E major” by Johann Sebastian Bach and “Winter” from The Four Seasons by Vivaldi.

The London Symphony Strings were joined by violinist Kala Ramnath for music of Max De Wardener at the Barbican on 7^th July 2011.

On 15^th February 2012, the LSO performed “Concerto for Orchestra” by Bela Bartok, “Concerto for Violin and Orchestra” by Erich Korngold, and “The Isle of the Dead” by Sergei Rachmaninoff.

Tomo was the guest leader of the BBC Symphony Orchestra on 19^th April 2012 when they interpreted “En Saga” and “Symphony No. 2” by Jean Sibelius, and “Violin Concerto” by BalysDvarionas.

Recordings on which he appears include The Genesis Suite by Tolga Kashif and Tomo Keller: Violine—Bach/Bartok/Ysaye.
