Long, Barbara

Violinist from California who began taking lessons from her mom and went on to attend Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music.  Her other teachers included Louis Persinger and Max Rostal.

Groups with whom she has worked include the Colonial Symphony, the Hunter Symphony, the Knickerbocker Players, the Leonia Chamber Musicians, the Little Orchestra Society, the Lyrica String Quartet, the Mostly Mozart Orchestra, the New York Chamber Symphony, the New York City Opera Orchestra, the New York Pops, the New York Viola Society, the Shaw Chorale, the Westchester Philharmonic, and the Westfield Symphony.

On 6th May 2003, she and violinist Michael Bloom and cellist Avron Coleman performed the “Trio in E flat” (often attributed to Franz Joseph Haydn but probably by his brother Michael) at Good Shepherd-Faith Presbyterian Church in Manhattan.

Recordings on which she appears include Prokofiev:  Peter and the Wolf/Peter Schickele:  A Zoo Called Earth/Gail Kubik:  Gerald McBoing BoingSatyagraha by Philip Glass, and Works for Basset Horn and Strings.

In the field of music education, she has served on the faculties of Friends of Music and Hunter College.
