Ruddock, Gerald

Trumpeter who has worked with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the London Chamber Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Voices, the LSO Brass Ensemble, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Summertown Choral Society.

On 26th June 2004, he was a guest soloist of the Summertown Choral Society at St. Peter’s College Chapel in Oxford, where they performed “Ave Verum” and “Give unto the Lord” by Sir Edward Elgar, “Ave Verum” and “Laudate Dominum” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, “Hear My Prayer” by Felix Mendelssohn, “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” by Johann Sebastian Bach and “Let the Bright Seraphim” by Georg Frideric Handel.

The LSO Brass Ensemble participated in the handing-over ceremony of the Olympics to London from Beijing at St. Paul’s Cathedral on 24th August 2008.  Their program included “Blues March” by Benny Golson, “La Mourisque” and “Pavane Battaille” from La Danserie by Tylman Susato, “Of Knights and Castles” by Raymond Premru and “Tango Jalousie” by Jacob Gade.

On 7th May 2011, they appeared at Bethany Lutheran Church in Seattle, Washington, where they offered up “Puttin’ on the Ritz” by Irving Berlin and “Stardust” by Hoagy Carmichael and Mitchell Parish.

The LSO were joined by pianist Denis Matsuev and violinist Leonidas Kavakos for a concert that featured Johannes Brahms’ “Symphony No. 4” and Karol Szymanowski’s “Symphony No. 4” (“Symphonie Concertante”) and “Violin Concerto No. 2”.

He retired from the LSO in June 2018 after 21 years with the orchestra.

Recordings on which he appears include:  Baroque & Contemporary Trumpet with Graham Ashton; Beethoven:  Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 “The Choral” with the RPO; Fresh Aire 8 by Mannheim Steamroller; Georg Friedrich Handel:  Music for the Royal Fireworks/Water Music with the ASMF; Handel:  Samson with the ECO and London Voices; Trumpet Concertos & Sonatas with the Irish Chamber Orchestra; and, Vivaldi:  Concertos with the London Chamber Orchestra.

He can also be heard on the soundtracks of Star Wars and Star Wars:  The Empire Strikes Back by John Williams with the LSO.
