Goodman, Alice (1958-Present)

She is a priest, poet and librettist born in St. Paul, Minnesota, who studied English and American literature at Harvard and has gone on to write the libretti for John Adams in his operas The Death of Klinghoffer and Nixon in China.  She had started to write Doctor Atomic for him, but withdrew from this after a year, but is reportedly working with the theatre director of all the aforementioned operas, Peter Sellars on The Consolation of Philosophy.

She was ordained as an Anglican priest and is currently serving as chaplain at Trinity College, Cambridge.  Her husband is the British poet Geoffrey Hill.
