He is a violinist who was a member of the Arditti Quartet from 1974-1983 and a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra from 1977-1980. He is currently the sub-leader, a first violinist and the Chairman of the Board in the London Symphony Orchestra, which he joined in 1980.
He has performed and recorded with many artists including Dave Brubeck, Frank Zappa, Mannheim Steamroller, Vince Mendoza and Nanci Griffith and has appeared on the soundtracks of Star Wars: The Empire Strike Back and Shadowlands, amongst others.
