Corrigan, Rose

Bassoonist who attended the University of Southern California and studied under Michael O’Donovan.

In 1985, she won first prize in the woodwinds category at the Pasadena Showcase House International Competition.

Before graduation, she joined the Santa Monica Symphony and eventually became their principal bassoonist.

Other groups with whom she has worked include the American Ballet Theatre, the Denali Quartet, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the Joffrey Ballet, the Kirov Ballet, the Long Beach Symphony, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Los Angeles Music Center Opera Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Pasadena Symphony, the Pacific Symphony, and the Pacific Classical Winds.

On 18th October 1998, she was the featured soloist when the Santa Monica Symphony performed “Bassoon Concerto in F major” by Carl Maria von Weber, “Redes” by Silvestre Revueltas, and “Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67” by Ludwig van Beethoven.

She was one of several musicians to take part in Bassoon Bonanza, Vol. 3 at the USC Thornton School of Music on 4th February 2008.  The program comprised the west coast premiere of “Dance of the Polar Bears” by Gernot Wolfgang, “18th Century Concerto Grosso” by Gottfried Heinrich Stoelzel, “Fugue in G minor, BWV 578” by Johann Sebastian Bach, “Piece en forme de Habanera” by Maurice Ravel, “Sonata, K. 292” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, “Take Five” by Paul Desmond, “Tango Suite” by Astor Piazzolla, and “Variations on a Familiar Tune” by Robert Linn.

On 19th April 2009, she was a guest soloist of the Pacific Symphony as they gathered at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts for Richard Strauss’s “Duet-concertino” and suite from Der Rosenkavalier.

Members of the Pacific Symphony appeared at the Orange County Performing Arts Center for an all-Beethoven recital on 16th January 2011.  It consisted of the master’s “Clarinet Trio No. 4 in B flat major, Op. 11” (“Gassenhauer”), “Septet in E flat major, Op. 20”, and “Sonata for Horn and Piano in F major, Op. 17”.

On 12th February 2011, the Denali Quartet offered up Bela Bartok’s “Contrasts”, Antonin Dvorak’s “Piano Quintet No. 2, Op. 81”, Leos Janacek’s “String Quartet No. 1” (“Kreutzer Sonata”) and Bohuslav Martinu’s “Four Wind Madrigals” at the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Monica.

The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra interpreted works used in Disney’s Fantasia, “Clair de Lune” by Claude Debussy, “Dance of the Hours” by Amilcare Ponchielli, a suite from The Nutcracker by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, “Symphony No. 6” (“Pastoral”) by Beethoven, The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky, “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” by Paul Dukas, “The Swan of Tuonela” by Jean Sibelius, and “Toccata and Fugue in D minor” by J.S. Bach in August 2011.

On 29th October 2011, the Pasadena Symphony took the stage at the Ambassador Auditorium, where they performed An-Lu Huang’s “Saibei Dance”, Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s “Violin Concerto”, and Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 5”.
